NATICK, Mass. -- More than 120 BJ's Wholesale Clubs across the eastern United States have begun a company-wide fundraising campaign to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. This past weekend alone 22 clubs sold pins of the American flag and raised over $50,000 in proceeds, all of which will be donated to the American Red Cross Relief Effort. This program has been authorized by the American Red Cross. BJ's is in the process of trying to obtain pins for the entire chain as the supply becomes available. In the meantime, all BJ's locations have set up canisters for monetary donations to benefit the American Red Cross.

In addition, BJ's has donated trailer loads of food, water and clothing to the rescue efforts through its Queens, N.Y. and Jersey City, N.J. locations. Dozens of BJ's clubs, primarily in the tri-state area and in D.C., have donated thousands of dollars in products from their shelves to feed and clothe relief workers and many clubs have donated drinks and food to blood donation centers through the American Red Cross.

"Our work has become more meaningful over the past week as we have focused our efforts on how to aid in the recovery efforts, " said Jack Nugent, President and CEO of BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. "Now more than ever, we must all work together to help those affected by this devastating event. By continuing to work together and doing everything we can, we are helping to honor those who are lost and missing and beginning the process of healing."

Whether responding to large or small-scale, national or international disasters the American Red Cross is always prepared to help. They immediately mobilize resources to provide food, medical assistance, shelter, and skilled mental health counseling and other critical assistance to the victims of disaster. The Red Cross annually mobilizes relief to the victims of more than 67,000 disasters nationwide.
