NATICK, Mass. -- BJ's Wholesale Club is teaming up with thousands of children to show their support to the military men and women serving overseas. In honor of USA Weekend's national Make A Difference Day, each of BJ's 153 Clubs throughout the chain will host a "Heart of Gold Hero Bags" project on Saturday, October 23rd from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children and families are invited to visit their local BJ's Clubs to create personalized "Heart of Gold Hero Bags" filled with snacks and handmade "Thankful Thoughts" cards that express their gratitude for our country's servicemen and women.

"We are all extremely thankful for the many brave men and women serving our country overseas," says Michael T. Wedge, president and CEO of BJ's Wholesale Club, Inc. "The 'Heart of Gold Hero Bag' program is a great way for families to show their appreciation for our troops while teaching children about the value of community service."

Children and their families can simply stop by their local BJ's Club to fill the "Hero" bags with snacks such as fruit drinks, candy, granola bars and Oreo cookies. The project is free to the public with all products being donated by BJ's Wholesale Club. In total, nearly 7,300 bags will be created for military personnel during this one-day event. BJ's has teamed up with the USO to distribute care packages to troops overseas. For a list of BJ's locations, log on to http://www.bjs.com/locations.
